Sit back, relax, and let your chauffeur drive you in a luxury Mercedes Viano northwards towards Callander, a gateway to the Scottish Highlands.
Your chauffeur driven vehicle will collect you from a location of your choice and then head north towards Callander, near Stirling, so keep a sharp look out for Stirling Castle.
Your first stop will be at Callander which is situated on the River Teith. This town has many links with Rob Roy, the famous Scottish folk hero and outlaw, who is often referred to by some as the Scottish Robin Hood. Callander is overlooked by high wooded crags and forms one of the Gateways to The Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.
On leaving Callander your chauffeur drive tour will head towards Glen Etive which sits in the Highlands of Scotland. The River Etive rises on the peaks surrounding Rannoch Moor, with several tributary streams coming together at the head of Glen Coe.
At the north end of Glen Etive lie the two mountains known as the "Herdsmen of Etive". These are Buachaille Etive Mòr and Buachaille Etive Beag. Film fans may be aware that Glen Etive featured in the James Bond movie Skyfall. In the movie Daniel Craig, who plays 007, and Dame Judi Dench, who plays his boss M, can be seen looking into the glen while standing next to Bond’s Aston Martin DB5. The nearby Dalness Lodge was owned by the family of Bond's creator Ian Fleming and was also used in the film.
The next part of your chauffeur driven tour takes you to Glen Coe. The area surrounding Glen Coe is an area of natural wilderness and rugged beauty. With imposing mountains, crystal clear rivers and vast empty spaces, this area often succumbs to harsh arctic conditions. This is a special place, a magical place, and visiting Glen Coe with its world famous scenery is a must see highlight of any trip to Scotland.
The name Glencoe means the ‘Valley of Weeping’ and refers to the Massacre of Glen Coe in 1692 when thirty eight men, women and children were killed in the the dead of winter. Before heading back to Edinburgh, you will have time to explore the Glencoe Visitor Centre which offers a number of interactive displays and activities that help you understand the landscape, wildlife and history of this special place.
So at the end of the day, as you sit back in your chauffeur driven vehicle, take time to reflect on what you have seen on your tour. What movie plays through your mind? Is it the romantic image of Rob Roy trekking across the moors as the Scottish Robin Hood or is it the horror of the MacDonalds fleeing into a dark winters night to escape the Massacre of Glen Coe. Perhaps it’s the scene in Skyfall where M and 007 stop in Glen Etive. Whatever your taste in movies, at the end of the day a trip to the Highlands of Scotland will remain with you for ever.
