Mercedes Viano

This tour incorporates the remote far north of Scotland, travelling most of the North Coast 500, the newly promoted northern coastal trail, and the Orkney Islands.

Day 1

Starting from your accommodation in Edinburgh, or elsewhere, we travel northwest to Stirling where we can visit the famous Castle.  As we continue northwards we pass through some of the best scenery in Scotland over Rannoch Moor and through the spectacular Glencoe. We continue up the Great Glen along the length of Loch Ness eventually reaching the Highland capital, Inverness, where we will overnight.

Day 2

We leave Inverness and continue northwards up the east coastal road to catch the Ferry to the Orkney Isles, stopping at Dunrobin Castle on the way.  This fairytale castle is set in a spectacular position overlooking the sea and has lovely gardens to explore.   When we arrive on the Orkney Islands we will visit the Italian Chapel, a wonderful hand crafted chapel built and decorated by the Italian prisoners of war during the Second World War.  We continue on and arrive in the main town of Kirkwall where we will overnight.  There will be time to explore the town and to visit St. Magnus Cathedral.

Day 3

We will spend the day touring the main island of Orkney, visiting some of the many Neolithic age historic sites including Skara Brae,  Maeshow, The Ring of Brodgar, and the Standing Stones of Stenness.  There are many other interesting places to visit on these very fertile and productive islands, including the northernmost whisky Distilleries, Highland Park and Scapa.  We will overnight again in the town of Kirkwall.

Day 4

We will return to the Scottish Mainland on the ferry and then go west along the rugged northern coast of mainland Scotland passing some of the most impressive mountains and wild moors following the coastal trail.  We follow the route of the North Coast 500 through Assynt to reach the lovely fishing village of Ullapool where we will overnight.

Day 5

We travel southwards again visiting the Corrieshalloch Gorge and then  through Inverness, visiting either Culloden Battlefield or Clava Cairns. We then go down through the Cairngorms National Park, stopping at Blair Castle or the Victorian town of Pitlochry, before heading back to Edinburgh and the end of your tour with us.

As you return to Edinburgh take time to reflect on what you have seen on your chauffeur driven tour.  What will hold the greatest memory for you?  Will it be the Italian Chapel on Orkney or the Great Glen ? Perhaps you preferred the breath taking beauty of North Coast 500 or was it the fishing village of ‘Ullapool’?

You can’t take these places with you, but you can keep and treasure the memories you make during a Maxwell Chauffeur Service extended tour for ever.
